DRIVING QUESTION: How do authors communicate views, thoughts, and ideas using poetry?
The Task |
Find a poem with the similar themes to those reflected in your novel. Review the poem and interview the poet by asking him/her about elements of the poem (tone, imagery, symbols, allusions, rhyme scheme, figurative language, literary devices, and overall theme) and how those elements help to create or contribute to the overall message the poet was trying to get across. You should also ask the poet questions about why they chose to write on this topic and how it relates to the novel that you read. Further engage your poet by asking what she/he hoped to achieve in today’s society by writing the poem. (Example: What problems does she see in today’s world that she hopes to address? What does she hope her readers will understand and/or do once they read her work?)
NOTE: You are not researching information about the poet. You are making inferences based on your analysis of the poem. All of the answers from the poet in the interview should be based on what YOU THINK the author might say based on your analysis of the poem. |
